How to Install an eSIM Before You Travel
Install your travel eSIM at home on WiFi before you leave. It takes about 2 minutes and means you're connected the moment you land — no airport WiFi, no SIM vendor lines, no roaming fees.
Before You Start
- Make sure your phone is unlocked (not tied to one carrier).
- Connect to WiFi — eSIM installation requires internet.
- Have your QR code ready (emailed after purchase on manamobile.net).
iPhone: Install eSIM
- Open the Camera app and point it at the QR code.
- Tap the yellow "Cellular Plan Detected" notification.
- Tap Continue → Add Cellular Plan.
- Label it "Travel" or the country name (e.g., "Japan eSIM").
- Set "Default Line" to your regular number for calls.
- Set "Cellular Data" to the new travel eSIM only when you arrive.
- Toggle "Allow Cellular Data Switching" OFF — prevents accidental roaming charges.

Pro Tips
- Install at home, activate on arrival: The eSIM only starts using data when it connects to a tower in the destination country. Installing early is safe and costs nothing.
- Take a screenshot of the QR code as a backup.
- Turn off data roaming on your primary SIM before you fly — prevents surprise charges.
- Test on WiFi: After installing, you should see the new eSIM appear in your cellular settings with the carrier name.
